Setting Europe in Motion – Integration as a school development project
- Our project work during the first year:
1) Development of criteria for a good presentation – group work during our coordination
meeting.
2) Development and evaluation of a questionnaire for year 10 students concerning their expectations with regard to their last years at school (“sixth” form) and the choices they have afterwards (i.e. continuing with full-time learning or work-based learning):
more counseling and better preparation for further studies needed (for example job interview training)
3) Finding ways of honouring pupils for academic, musical or artistic excellence, social commitment and/or sporting achievements in and out of school (work group drawing up criteria).
- Our project work during the second year:
o Last September, a project day was organised for year 5 students. Its objective was to familiarize the pupils with their new school and their new class and to find ways of dealing with conflicts (presentation on pin board).
o Continuation of work on finding ways of honouring students’ excellence in various fields (see point 3 above, - presentation on pin board)
o Discussion of consequences of the imminent shortening of secondary education (final exams after year 12, instead of year 13 as from 2006/2007 onwards), especially with regard to the transition from primary to secondary schools.
· School development: what our school has achieved in the course of the past years
o Implementation of mentoring for year 5 and 6 students: year 9 and 10 students introduce younger pupils to their new school and take care of them for a period of two years (see poster).
o Practical help and information to get on the right track: Managers present their professional career and their job to sixth form students (see pin board)
o Work experience for both year 9 and year 11 students (see pin board).
